Ice Cream Poke Cake

You know when you create a really good idea in your head and try to make it happen in real life, but it doesn’t really go as planned? Welllllll that’s what happened with my “creative” recipe. It was a flop!!! But I’m still going to share the idea and end result with you. But to be honest, it wasn’t a complete flop. I just figured my creation would look a bit “fancier” for display, haha!

So I found a recipe online regarding a “Poke Cake”. It was banana cake on the bottom and chocolate pudding covering the top. Holes were poked throughout the cake (hence, “Poke Cake”) to allow the pudding to soak through the holes. Sounds delicious, right? So, I think, “What a great idea for a dessert for dogs!” Recreating the Poke Cake with Banana Cake Mix for dogs and Carob Ice Cream Mix for Dogs would be a fabulous dessert. But again, in my mind this dessert for dogs looked GREAT. But the presentation of the cake, was… well….. not pretty!

But hey, does your dog really cake what a cake (or any food for that matter!) actually LOOKS like? NO!!! So, I figured I will still share this idea in case you have a better more “prettier” way of creating this fun doggie-dessert ??

Let’s get started on what your need to create your dog their very own “Ice Cream Poke Cake”:

First, you’ll want to pre-heat your oven to 350 degree and prepare the Banana cake mix. Follow the directions on the back of the cake mix by adding 1 egg, oil, water and the cake mix together until all lumps are removed. Spray your bread pan with non-stick cookie spray and pour the Banana Cake Mix batter into the pan, tapping on your counter-top to remove all bubbles from the pan. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.

Once your cake has completed baking, immediately poke holes into your cake. I used a straw to poke holes into the cake. Poke as many holes into the banana cake as desired. Once finished, cover the cake STILL IN the bread pan and place into the freezer.

Next, make your Carob ice Cream mix by placing the powdered mix into a blender and adding 2/3 cup of warm tap water. Blend well until all lumps are removed. (You can just add water to the Puppy Scoops cup and stir in the water. I find just using a Blender creates faster results!)

Once the ice cream is stirred well and your cake has frozen, remove the cake from the freezer and pour the carob ice cream mix over top. I found freezing the cake WELL first, doesn’t allow the ice cream to soak through the cake.

Cover the bread pan again and place back into the freezer for about 5 hours. For best results, freeze overnight!

Remove the bread pan from the freezer once the ice cream is completely frozen on top. Using a knife, free the cake inside the bread pan!

Cut a slice and serve to your favorite pup! Even though presentation doesn’t LOOK great, this cake will taste DELICIOUS!!!!
